Jewish Peoplehood

Jewish Peoplehood, Jewish Identity and Ties with the Diaspora

In partnership with the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs and the Jewish Agency.

The program aims to broadly expose young people in Israeli society to the Jewish communities in the Diaspora and to the range of identities among the Jewish People. The program is comprised of several components - a youth movement coordinator who leads and develops the program in their youth movement, a shared beit midrash (in-depth study group) for all partnering youth movements, a connection to world youth movements, initiating meetings with youth from the Diaspora, developing training curriculums and various programs in the youth movements and harnessing returning shlichim (emissaries) to take part in youth movement undertakings on this issue.

The program includes:

Strengthening awareness, knowledge and discourse among the youth movements in Israel about the Diaspora and the relationship between Israel and Diaspora Jewry.

Developing the educational discourse about and acquaintance with streams among the Jewish People.

Heightening the sense of belonging to the Jewish People family. Acquaintance with and connection to the heritage of the Jewish People and to the shared history connecting Jews throughout the Diaspora.

Increasing awareness regarding Israel-Diaspora relations.

Familiarization with, learning and expanding knowledge and awareness regarding the characteristics of, and processes taking place in, the Jewish Diaspora.

Leading a shared Jewish discourse about the future of the Jewish People and the place of the State of Israel and Zionism in this discourse.

Asefa Israelit (Israeli Assembly) – the “Remember the Murder - Stand Up for Democracy” coalition is comprised of youth movements, organizations and persons on the right and the left, Jews and Arabs, religious and secular alike. The coalition was established in the aim of turning the memory of the assassination of Prime Minister and Defense Minister Yitzhak Rabin into a warning sign for Israeli society.

In this spirit we shaped the main commemoration event that takes place in recent years (from 2016) as an event of all elements of Israeli society, in the aim of strengthening the value-based and democratic center that opposes racism, violence, incitement and harm against entire sectors and acting to build a society with a shared, equitable and democratic center.

The coalition is based on a founding covenant, a joint document of principles which serves as the foundation for the connection between the various entities and sets equality and majority agreement as the basis for a Jewish-democratic State of Israel.
